Over the weekend, and even today, countless people, including myself, across all skin hues, ages, backgrounds, and genders/gender non-conforming, etc. have used the hashtag #metoo to share with the world that they’re survivors of sexual assault or harassment, or both, and to create awareness. My heart continues to break as my timelines are full of folks sharing their stories and pain. It is an epidemic where people are silenced, shamed and ridiculed. According to RAINN, 1 in 6 American women has had a sexual violence experience. Although the fact is that many women have suffered through such cruelty, the truth is that it was not my fault, your fault, nor your friend, lover’s, sister’s, brother’s, mother’s, etc. fault. We are not responsible for others’ actions, but we can take control of our healing. Whether it’s praying, writing, therapy, mediation, or taking a break from the triggers of the news, social media or everyday life, be sure to take care of yourself. The truth is that you’re loved, valuable, beautiful, powerful, limitless, and worthy of goodness. You are the only one who can take care of you better than anyone. It’s what God wants us all to do!
Good afternoon and Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! The truth is…this land, and everything that built this nation was stolen! Let the truth be known and declared to all! Let’s not celebrate false narratives nor history!
Good morning and Happy Monday! My heart goes out to the victims, family members and everyone injured by the shooting in Las Vegas. I can’t imagine what it’s like to experience a tragedy like this one, and I pray that the space to mourn, healing and wholeness is gifted to all impacted. America’s truth is being revealed right before our eyes. Let’s pay attention, let’s call it all out, let’s do the work to change it. It’s the only way things are going to get better.
It is OUR right to make our voices heard, to stand for what we believe in! If you don’t like how it looks, then work it out with yourself. You don’t have to see the value in nor validate my methods. But know that they stem from a love for my people, for myself, that arises from deep within my soul. Made in God’s image, gifted with divine life. We were created equal.
Good afternoon and Happy Monday! In this what are other people doing, thinking and saying world, it’s easy to lose ourselves. It’s easy to get caught up in popular opinion, thoughts about how to do things, who to be, and how to be. I recently found myself researching the way other people posted something to see if the way I wanted to post was “good enough”. With creativity-art, writing, music, etc., it can be like second nature to “check-in” with what’s been successful or liked as opposed to creating or doing what’s naturally from within. Going forward, I’m going to be more mindful of the ways I discount my art and natural abilities, who I am and what I have to offer the world by trying to make it “fit” with what’s been deemed “good”. I don’t need permission to write how or what I write, create how or what I create, and neither do you. What matters is that it comes from a place of authenticity, a place that is really, totally you. Let your beautiful, amazing inner self guide you to your ultimate self!
