Freedom Friday – 10.20.17

In many ways, society has bought into the notion that our focus is to acquire people, things, ideas, places, etc. None of these by themselves bring true, everlasting, abundant joy, peace, or strength. What offers this and so much more, is giving – of self, of time, wisdom, love, comfort, encouragement, knowledge, experiences, healing, etc. One of the reasons I started my blog was to give the lessons I have learned about myself and life, in an effort to connect with, help and inspire healing for and in others. As I become free, whole, confident myself, my goal is for others to be free, whole and confident. Nothing I receive is for me alone, it’s always, also for the benefit of those around me. So as long as I receive, so will you. My purpose is to serve and love my people, the world, with everything that I have and will have. Whether it’s money, quality time, posting my thoughts, blogging about my pain, it is to build, edify, empower. It is better to give than receive. Never forget it. Look for ways to give of yourself to others. It can be as simple as a smile and “hello”!

Freedom Friday – 10.13.17

Freedom-Friday-Freedom-Nina-SimoneAt one point or another, we all deal with fear, in some capacity. Whether it’s anxiety, stepping out of your comfort zone, or worrying about the future, fear is a part of life. For me, my fears have shown up in four distinct ways, more so related to my dreams and writing, filmmaking. For me, fear has shown up in being concerned with failure, embarrassment, attack (harsh public criticism), and rejection (fear). At different times in my life, and sometimes all at once, they’ve kept me from doing what I really wanted to do, be who I really wanted to be. It took me years to start my blog because of these concerns, and when I was ready to dive in, I almost quit and said forget it. Now, I’m working on replacing these fears with affirmations and truths. God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. This means that failure nor embarrassment, attack or rejection can stop me from living, being who God created me to be. So for now on, I’m going to fight against the fear of failure by doing everything my heart leads me to do, no matter what; fight against embarrassment by accepting who and what my heart leads me to be; fight against attack by speaking what my heart leads me to say; and fight against rejection by loving myself unconditionally. Let’s not allow fear to win. Let’s take control of our lives, and selves and choose to live free!

How Allowing Myself to Feel is Helping Me Heal

So often, we hide from our emotions. We push them in the back of our throats, squeeze our eyes as tight as we can to trap tears, and tuck our humanity away in a box, adding to the collection of “things” we “can’t” or won’t deal with.

Whether we’ve lost a loved one, someone said the wrong thing at the wrong time, or we’re having a rough day, it’s difficult to give ourselves the time, space and energy necessary to sense, exist in the moment, to sit with what is, isn’t and will be. Continue reading
