Over the weekend, and even today, countless people, including myself, across all skin hues, ages, backgrounds, and genders/gender non-conforming, etc. have used the hashtag #metoo to share with the world that they’re survivors of sexual assault or harassment, or both, and to create awareness. My heart continues to break as my timelines are full of folks sharing their stories and pain. It is an epidemic where people are silenced, shamed and ridiculed. According to RAINN, 1 in 6 American women has had a sexual violence experience. Although the fact is that many women have suffered through such cruelty, the truth is that it was not my fault, your fault, nor your friend, lover’s, sister’s, brother’s, mother’s, etc. fault. We are not responsible for others’ actions, but we can take control of our healing. Whether it’s praying, writing, therapy, mediation, or taking a break from the triggers of the news, social media or everyday life, be sure to take care of yourself. The truth is that you’re loved, valuable, beautiful, powerful, limitless, and worthy of goodness. You are the only one who can take care of you better than anyone. It’s what God wants us all to do!
Good afternoon and Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! The truth is…this land, and everything that built this nation was stolen! Let the truth be known and declared to all! Let’s not celebrate false narratives nor history!
There is a difference between being free, knowing that you’re free, and living like you’re free. There is a difference between being loved, knowing that you’re loved, and living like you’re loved. There are levels to this, lol. Make sure, that with any and every thing you receive, whether it be peace, joy, wealth, love, freedom, confidence, wisdom, etc., that you use it to enrich your life and help others do the same. Don’t just get to get; receive to transform in some type of way. Receive to become, know to become, do to become, a better version of you!
Without injustice and inequality, number 45, North Korea preparing for war, local, state and national government failures, hurricane disasters, etc., life still remains difficult to navigate, build among opposition, and make real what we hope and envision. With all of these things, it can seem like doing anything worthwhile is either a waste of time or impossible. While we fight for what we want, what we need, and the world we want to see, we must remind ourselves that there is still beauty in the struggle. Waking up every morning, the sound of a baby cooing, flowers blooming, leaves transforming, inviting us to a season of change, and bright, blue skies that show dark days don’t last too long. Amidst all of the heartache, there is something in life to celebrate, to uplift, to enjoy, to love. Find it, absorb it, and share it. Light is the power of life!
For over two minutes, the moon completely covered the sun, immediately turning day into dusk.
As the sun’s corona peeked through the darkness, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
An electric energy filled my body and soul, as the thrill of joy rushed from the depths of my spirit and were released through my vocal chords, producing a shriek from a quiet, solid place. Continue reading
Along this journey called life, there have been plenty of times when I needed something but didn’t have what I needed to get it; or wanted something that I didn’t have the finances to purchase.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been making it a point to be grateful for the income I have versus stressing over the income I lost when I left my full-time job.
I’m thankful for the fact that over the last couple of years, my income has increased, become more steady, and I’m almost bringing in as much as I was when I was working a 9-5 (or sometimes 50 plus hours a week), with less hours worked, more joy, peace and control over my life. Continue reading
